Will stepped in as the new Officer-in-charge of a failing, six-state Navy recruiting region of 200 “sailors” in 42 offices. Will was asked to help focus the company on development of new products for new markets to diversify, grow and sustain the company. By engaging all of the stakeholders in the project in this vision, his team identified markets and products as well as ways to adapt current manufacturing to new applications. Within 6 months of the alignment of manufacturing with new market needs the company successfully developed and launched the first new product in the first new market. Will took over leadership of a failing commercial services company that had never made money and provided sub-standard service with a union workforce hostile to ownership.
Within 12 months of defining potential markets and a strong value proposition, establishing a vision, mission and targets, aligning and hiring talent and values with roles and outcomes, implementing systems, practices, development, feedback and reward programs, the company generated a profit and the workforce reached a Performance Quotient (PQ) of 75.
